Kelly Galloup designed the Zoo Cougar for one purpose: catching brown trout that have outgrown their willingness to eat insects. This is a fly for fish that eat other fish, and it does not apologize for what it is. The spun deer hair head pushes water and dives on the strip, the rabbit strip body undulates with predatory suggestion, and the articulated shank gives it the segmented movement of a wounded sculpin making its last swim. You fish it with a heavy rod and heavier expectations, and when a twenty-four-inch brown materializes behind it, you will understand why some people spend entire seasons doing nothing else.
