Sculpins are the trout's steak dinner -- fat, slow, and hiding under every rock in the river. This deer-hair-headed pattern dives to the bottom and darts between cobble like the real thing, which is to say, awkwardly and without grace. Big brown trout eat sculpins with a territorial aggression that suggests the sculpin personally offended them. Tie it on when you are done catching twelve-inch trout and ready to have your heart broken or your leader snapped by something much larger.
