The Backstabber gets its name from its inverted hook design -- the point rides up, which is ironic for a fly that is entirely honest about its intentions. It sinks slowly, lands quietly, and presents itself to carp with the unassuming demeanor of something that has always been lying on the bottom. Carp, for all their wariness, find this deception entirely convincing. The fight that follows is anything but subtle.
