The Battle Creek Special was born on one of the countless tributaries in the Bristol Bay drainage where rainbow trout grow fat on salmon eggs and flesh. It is a sparse, understated pattern in a fishery that rewards subtlety -- a rare thing in Alaska, where the general philosophy is 'bigger, brighter, more.' Sometimes the fish want a whisper instead of a shout. This is that whisper.
